BSF troops deployed on border have been putting relentless efforts in containing smuggling of narcotics drugs especially Yaba Tablets and Ganja in the state of Tripura.
On 16th May 2019, on specific information regarding smuggling of Yaba Tablets, a red alert was sounded amongst BSF troops of Border Out Post Asabari, under Sonamura Sub Division, Sepahijala District.
During the course of domination of the border, agile BSF troops spotted suspicious movements of some miscreants behind the bamboo groves on Indian side, near BP No.2053/6-S. On being challenged, the miscreants fled away from the spot towards Indian village.
During thorough search of the area, BSF party recovered 1200 Nos of Yaba Tablets worth Rs. 6,00,000/- from the spot. The seized Yaba Tablets were handed over to PS Kalamchera.
In an another case related to smuggling activities, BSF troops of same Border Out Post, observed some miscreants with head loads trying to smuggle contrabands items across the International Border from Indian side.
BSF party challenged them to stop, but the miscreants did not pay any heed and continued their smuggling activities. Finding no alternative, BSF troops fired Non-lethal weapon to stop the miscreants, but they fled away leaving behind their head loads. During search of the area, 100 Nos of Cotton Sarees worth Rs.1,00,000/- & 06 Nos of Lehanga worth Rs. 9,000/- were recovered from the spot.
Seized Cloths were handed over to Customs Sonamura. Again, on the same night, BSF patrolling party of Border Out Post Mohanpur, under district West Tripura seized 04 kgs of Ganja worth Rs. 20,000/-, while miscreants were trying to smuggle this contraband item from India to Bangladesh.
The seized Ganja was handed over to Excise Office, Agartala.
From details of above seizures, it is evident that places like Sonamura, Melagarh, Bishalgarh, Agartala, Srimantapur, N C Nagar and Boxanagar have become the hub of all kind of smuggling activities, which is worrisome for the society as well as Law Enforcement Agencies.
In the past also, BSF have been affecting seizure of narcotics items and arresting drug smugglers on regular basis to make Tripura a Drug Free State. However, all sections of the society have to take a call and assist police and other law enforcing agencies in curbing menace of smuggling of narcotics drugs in the state.
