The state of Tripura has been facing insurgency for last four decades. The aggrieved indigenous tribal people of the state when realized that they are socially and economically marginalized by the outsiders, they took up arms against the state.
With the counter insurgency efforts of both the state and center government, the insurgency has now reached to a dying stage and remnant part of the insurgents have started sending signals for surrender.
In a series of surrender attempts by NLFT(BM) cadre before Border Security Force, On 22 May 2019, at about 1730 hrs, two (02) active NLFT (BM) cadres along with their wives and children reported BSF Border Out Post Ganesh under Dhalai District from Mandarichera insurgent camp of Bangladesh and expressed their desire to surrender before BSF Authorities.
The name of first surrendered insurgent is SS Lance Corporal Paresh Debbarma @ Paresh (47 yr) S/O late Bidya Chandra Debbarma R/o vill Baludumpara, PS Mandai, Distt- Agartala, Tripura, his wife Pomita Debbarma (22yr) and son Rahel Debbarma (10 Months).
Name of another insurgent is SS Sepoy Dipenjoy Tripura @ Dalok (23 yr) S/O Tin Kumar Tripura R/o Vill- Jatindraruajapara , PS – Ganganagar, Distt – Dhalai, Tripura, his wife Karjabala Tripura (20yr) and son Jugan Tripura (14 Months).
On being asked they revealed that they had joined the NLFT (BM) group in year 2000 and 2006 respectively. After receiving necessary training, they have been operating from different camps in Bangladesh.
On 23 May 2019 a formal surrender ceremony was held at SHQ BSF Panisagar in the presence DIG BSF Panisagar and media friends. On verification of records, it is found that the surrendered insurgent SS Lance Corporal Paresh Debbarma @ Paresh is listed at Srl No. 46 and SS Sepoy Dipenjoy Tripura @ Dalok is listed at Srl No. 20 of Extremist list (as on Oct 2017) being maintained by Tripura Police.
