PM Modi starts second term, Amit Shah sworn in as union minister

After a stupendous victory in the Lok Sabha elections, Narendra Modi took oath for the second consecutive time as the prime minister, along with his council of ministers, at the majestic Rashtrapati Bhavan Forecourt in New Delhi this evening.

Over 8,000 guests including a number of heads of states, heads of governments, constitutional authorities, diplomats, senior political leaders and government officials are attending the ceremony.

7:28 pm: Former foreign secretary S. Jaishankar took oath as cabinet minister.

7:25pm: Nitin Gadkari, often dubbed as the one of the high performing ministers during the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, is expected to be entrusted with key responsibilities in the second term too.

7:21 pm: LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan takes oath as union minister. He served as Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in NDA-1

7:12 pm: Nitin Gadkari takes oath.

7:09 pm: Amit Shah takes oath

7:07 pm: Rajnath Singh is the second minister in Modi’s council of ministers to take oath.

7:04 pm: Narendra Modi took oath as India’s 15th Prime Minister.

6:59 pm: PM Modi reaches Rashtrapati Bhavan
