On 05 July 2019, on specific information regarding smuggling of Yaba Tablets, BSF Company Commander deployed at Border Out Post Ashabari, under PS Kalamchera, District Sepahijala had planned multiple ambushes.
At about 10:30 PM, troops on duty observed suspicious movement of some miscreants stealthily advancing towards Border Fence. BSF party challenged the miscreants to stop, but they did not pay any heed and continued indulging in smuggling activities, by throwing contraband items over the fence.
Finding no alternative to stop them, BSF troops fired non-lethal weapon in the air, maintaining safe distance to deter the miscreants. On this, the miscreants fled away from the spot taking the advantage of darkness. During thorough search of the area, BSF party recovered two plastic bags containing 48 Bottle Phensedyl worth Rs.6,352 and 10 Bottle Eskuf syrup worth Rs. 1,055/-. In the meantime, services of dog squad were utilized to check scene of crime as a part of follow up action. Resultantly BSF troops recovered five more polythene bags containing 5,900 Nos of Yaba Tablets worth Rs. 29,50,000/-.
The seized Yaba Tablets and other items were handed over to PS Kalamchera.
Regular seizures of such huge quantity of Yaba Tablets by BSF troops from bordering areas under Sonamura indicates the vulnerability of the area from smuggling of drugs point of view.
However, BSF troops deployed on the border have been putting relentless efforts in countering smuggling of Narcotics drugs like Yaba Tablets and Phensedyl with co-ordination and co-operation from other sister agencies.
