In the service to the motherland, Sh. S K Chakraborty, DIG BSF, an old student of M B B College, Agartala, attained martyrdom on 13 July 1999 at BSF Campus Bandipur, Baramulla of Kashmir Valley.

On night intervening 12-13 July 1999, armed militants sneaked inside the BSF Campus Bandipur and occupied Family Quarters building. After receiving this information, Sh. S K Chakraborty, the then ADIG along with staff officers immediately rushed to the spot. During course of action, a burst of fire came and martyred Sh. S K Chakraborty and Shri Mohinder Raj (JAD/G) Bandipur on the spot. Their supreme sacrifice in the line of duty shall always be remembered by the Nation.

Sh. S K Chakraborty was born on 15th January 1945 and joined BSF as Assistant Commandant Direct Entry officer on 06th May 1968. Today, Sh. S K Chakraborty was remembered and to keep his memory alive, a Commemoration programme was organized by 145 Bn BSF at Bir Bikram Memorial College, Agartala, which was attended by Mrs. Biplabi Chakraborty, wife of Late Shri S K Chakraborty DIG BSF along with her family members, Shri Sanjay Roy, Principal, BBMC along with College Faculty members, students and NCC Cadets of the BBM College. During the programme, Sh. B N Raut, Second-in-Command, 145 Bn BSF, on the behalf of Inspector General Tripura Frontier along with other officers paid a floral tribute to martyr Shishir Kumar Chakraborty, Ex DIG BSF and expressed their gratitude to the esteemed family members of the martyrs as well as to all the serving soldiers, who are selflessly fighting for motherland. The College students also sung patriotic songs to mark the occasion by paying homage to the Son of Tripura.
