Inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Make-in-India initiative, Chief Minister Shri Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday announced launching very soon MadeInTripura (MIT) to promote the state’s products in the international markets.
He made this announcement after inspecting eco-friendly products made by skilled professionals of Tripura in a workshop at Prajna Bhavan.
The Chief Minister also launched the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana and state-level advocacy workshop today.
Addressing during the opening session, Deb emphasised on the importance of value addition of forest products right from collection, packaging and commercialization and thus improvement the socio-economic status of the indigenous people.
He informed that the state government already has started working towards transforming forest resources into source of income and to strengthen the rural economy. He also emphasized on direct marketing of products in international markets avoiding any middleman.
Deb said, “Altogether 11 projects were sent to Centre for approval out of which nine proposals were approved and already the Centre had disbursed Rs. 1 crore 21 lakh and 90 thousand to state.”
He viewed that the newly-launched Van Dhan Yojana would play a significant role in improving the economic status of the indigenous people.
Addressing the workshop, the Chief Minister said that the state government had taken various initiatives for proper utilization of forest resources through which additional profit to the regular income of the downtrodden people could be made without much effort.
The Chief Minister said, “Bee keeping and rubber plantation sectors in Tripura have huge potentials. And, the state government is promoting them– the rubber cultivators already started producing ribbed smoked sheets while a good number of new Self Help Groups have got involved with bee keeping in rubber plantations areas.”
The Chief Minister praised the role of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his special focus on the development of the North East region.
“During the tenure of previous government at the Centre, the North East was not known to the council of Ministers but at present even the Prime Minister and Home Minister know some of the IPFT leaders of Tripura,” Shri Deb said.
He added, “The North East region got exposure at the national level after Shri Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. The region including Tripura is now witnessing massive development following the steps taken by the Prime Minister. Even, Home Minister Shri Amit Shah had said in last NEC meet that the NE would be emerging as ‘main engine’ of development in the country.”
The Prime Minister also took special initiative to utilize the natural gas available in the North East, said Deb referring to the Central Government’s recent decision on Viability Gap Funding or Capital Grant of 60% of the estimated cost of Rs. 9,265 crore for the project to Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL).
He also made another announcement that the state government has plan to declare Tripura as the first CNG state of the country by March 2020.
The Chief Minister added that he had requested the DoNER Minister over telephone only two days ago about handing over NERAMAC Nalkata plant to the state government so that a food processing unit can be restart there.
Deb said, “Jackfruits have demand in markets of UK and Canada and so the state government is also planning to export jackfruits of Tripura to the international markets directly without any middleman. Similar initiatives have also been taken for ‘agar’.”
Speaking about the improving healthcare facility Deb said that altogether 8.5 lakh Ayushman cards were distributed in Tripura on date.”
He said that after formation of the new government the revenue collection of the state has increased, while the unemployment rate decreased and moreover, the number of job creators also increased in Tripura.
As part of the programmes, the Chief Minister launched MFP based products and distributed cheque for Van Dhan Vikas Kendra.
Forest Minister Shri Mevar Kumar Jamatia and PCCF Dr. Alind Rastogi along with many other officials were also present in the workshop.
Secretary to Tribal Welfare department- Shri N. Darlong delivered the welcome speech while the key note address was delivered by Shri Pravir Krishna, Managing Director of TRIFED, Government of India.
