2649 new industrial units set up in just one year: CM

The Chief Minister stated that altogether 5,493 industrial units were set up in Tripura till 2017-18. After formation of the new government, a total of 2649 new industrial units were set up in just one year (2018-19), now the total number of industrial units stood at 8142, he added.

“The data indicates that the present government is working for industrial growth across the state— the traders from other states as well as foreign countries are realizing the industrial potentials of Tripura and showing more interests to take part in such events,” the Chief Minister said.


Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister also stressed on producing RSS-I rubber sheets and setting up of smoke house so that around 1.5 lakh people involved directly or indirectly in the rubber sector for livelihood get income.

“The state government is working to make Tripura a self-sufficient state– the per capita income in Tripura is expected to cross Rs. 1,51,000 which was Rs. 1,16,000 during the communist rule,” he said.

Speaking in the inaugural session, the Chief Minister also highlighted the various facilities including Tourist Guide introduced by his government. He also gave data on tourists’ footfalls in various spots of the state.

“Earlier around 36,000 tourists used to visit Chabimura — one of the key tourist spots of Tripura — every year on an average. Now, the number has increased to 60,000. Similarly, only 1,88,000 tourists visited the Ujjayanta Palace in 2018-19. But, the same spot registered footfalls of 2,48,000 visitors including foreigners after formation of the new government,” the Chief Minister added.
In another note, Deb said, “around 10,000 people visit Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur daily on an average. After five years, the number will cross 50,000 per day once the proposed replica of 51 Shakti Peethas is set up. The DPR for the project has already been completed and the tender process is underway.”

Before concluding his speech, the Chief Minister said that Tripura would emerge as Shrestha Tripura when India would become best country by 2030.

MLA Mimi Majumder, secretary to Industries and Commerce department- Kiran Gitte, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh- Kiriti Chakma and TIDC chairman Tinku Roy were also present in the inaugural ceremony.

As many as 282 stalls including 164 of Tripura participated in the 30th Industries and Commerce Fair- 2020 to be continued till February 15 next. The organizers are expecting footfalls of around 3 lakh people in the fair this year.

The Chief Minister along with other guests visited various stalls in the mela ground and interacted with people.
