Ahmedabad municipal body builds wall to hide slums from US President’s view

An L-sized wall is being constructed at the one end of Indira Bridge near city airport to ensure that the US President couldn’t see the poverty in slums of Sarania Vaas.

Labourers and their contractors, who were building the walls, said that the wall was being constructed on the government’s order as the slums may not look good. On further questioning, they thought it better to leave the spot!

Ahead of US President Donald Trump’s visit to India, politics has already begun with Congress party taking potshots at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Gujarat.

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala targeted the BJP government citing a news report which stated that a wall is being built along the route that Trump will take in Ahmedabad ostensibly to make the slum area near it.
