Border Security Force in its unremitting efforts toward maintaining peace and tranquility along the International Boundary and curbing the menace of Trans-border smuggling also succeeded in seizing big haul of Sandalwood (approx. 8,900 Kgs) having market value more than Rs. 20 Crores from Industrial Estate, Agartala in one joint operation and Narcotics alongwith other contraband items having collective value of 36.80 Lakhs in different operations.
In the first operation, on 25 Feb 2020, acting on specific intelligence input provided by BSF Intelligence team Gokulnagar regarding illegal stocking of huge quantity of Sandalwood in a Godown Shed No. 16, Arundhuti Nagar, Industrial Estate, Agartala. A joint Operation was planned by BSF with DFO, West Tripura, and Executive Magistrate, SDM office, Sadar and police officials of PS AD Nagar.
During said joint Operation, Ops party thoroughly searched the Godown and seized approx. 8,900 Kgs of Sandalwood packed in big size polythene bags. Seized Sandalwood deposited with Forest Department, Agartala. The exact cost of above seized Sandalwood will be ascertained after assessment of the quality of wood by conducting specified Lab Tests.
In an another operation, during intervening night of 25/26 Feb 2020, on specific BSF intelligence input, ambush party of Border Out Post Chanderpur, District South Tripura observed suspicious movement of some miscreants, approaching IBB Fence. On being challenged by BSF party, the miscreants fled away from the spot towards India side taking advantage of darkness. During search, party recovered Yaba Tablets- 7,000 Nos worth Rs. 35,00,000/- from the area.
