Madhya Pradesh BJP filed a plea in the Supreme Court on Monday seeking an order to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly to hold a floor test within 12 hours, as per the direction issued by Governor Lalji Tondon.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday moved the Supreme Court demanding an urgent trust vote in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, after Speaker N.P. Prajapati adjourned the session till 26 March, citing the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The apex court will hear the matter on Tuesday.
The demand for the trust vote comes in the wake of last week’s resignation of 22 legislators from the ruling Congress, even as crucial elections to the Rajya Sabha loom.
As soon as the House convened for the budget session, parliamentary affairs minister Govind Singh mentioned the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic and highlighted an advisory issued by the Union government. Prajapati then announced the adjournment of the assembly till 26 March.
