Governor’s Rule in Tribal Autonomous Body after May 17 as Polls Postponed in Tripura Due to Covid-19 Lockdown
The Governor’s rule would be imposed in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) after May 17 as the polls have been postponed indefinitely due to the nationwide lockdown to check the spread of novel coronavirus.
“Today in a cabinet meeting the minister has taken the decision and it has been decided that the Governor will regulate the functionaries of the administration of TTAADC after May 17 as the existing term is going to be expired and due to the Covid-19, the election has been deferred for indefinite period”, law minister Nath said.
The 30-member TTAADC is currently governed by the opposition CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist) and its five-year term would expire on May 17.
The minister also added in his statement that the Governor shall assume the administration of the ADC as per the provision contained in the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
