The first consignment of goods from Bangladesh arrived in Tripura by waterway on Saturday as part of a trial run for shipping of goods from other parts of India to the northeast region via Bangladesh formally making operational of new waterways between the two neighbours.
The wait is over– trial run on Sonamura in Tripura – Daudkandi in Bangladesh inland waterway has been successful as the first ever vessel with export consignment made its entey at Sonamura jetty on Saturday.
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das along with Tourism Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, MP Pratima Bhowmik and others have welcomed the first ever vessel amid huge enthusiasm.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today highlighted that GSDP of Tripura is around 9% in financial year 2020-21 amid covid-19 crisis also.
Ending all wait and speculation,the arrival of the vessel at Srimanapur jetty evoked enthusiasm among locals.
