BSF was raised on 01st Dec 1965.
From 25 Battalions in 1965, risen to 192 Battalions.
Presently, strength of the Force is more than 2.6 lakh personnel, making BSF as a “World’s largest Border Guarding Force”.
BSF is also first line of defence of the Country manning Indo-Pak and Indo-Bangladesh borders, besides its deployment on LoC in J&K, CI Operations, Anti-Naxal Operations, Internal Security duties, United Nations Peace Keeping Missions and other duties assigned by Govt of India from time to time.
BSF actively participated in all major border conflicts with Pakistan. BSF had also played a very active role in Liberation of Bangladesh.
The contribution of the Border Security Force in safeguarding National Security during War and Peace is praiseworthy and always recognized by the Govt at all levels and general public.
Force remembers and pays homage to 1922 brave hearts’ supreme sacrifice and valour in the line of duty.

The State of Tripura is a land locked with 856 Kms Indo-Bangladesh International Boundary having innumerable challenges like peculiarities of terrain and climatic conditions.
18 BSF Battalions deployed under 04 Sector Headquarters with troops owning unparalleled zeal and pride always ready to deliver their best in maintaining sanctity of the International Border.
During the period since previous BSF Raising Day i.e. from 01st Dec 2019 to 30th Nov 2020, BSF, BSF Praharis of Tripura Frontier has exhibited high level of operational excellence by unabated success through the following operational achievements:
Narcotics worth Rs. 27,96,55,938/-, which includes Yaba Tablets – 4,73,892 Nos, Phensedyl / Eskuff Syrup – 68,901 Nos, Ganja – 5,030.20 Kgs, Liquor – 3,265 Btls.
Cattle: 2,163 Nos worth Rs. 1,88,45,000/-.
Miscellaneous Contraband items worth Rs. 11,18,03,247/- including 2.267 Kgs Nos Gold Bars / Biscuit worth Rs. 95,93,200/-.
Destruction of 38,50,825 Nos of Ganja sapling cultivated in bordering areas.
In addition to above, vigilant BSF troopers also apprehended 130 illegal Intruders/immigrants/emigrants on International border, which includes 86 Indian Nationals and 44 Bangladeshi Nationals.
BSF Field formations are persistently pursuing various Civic Action Programmes in their respective areas of responsibilities to extend the support for improvement of the living standard of bordering populace and growth of remote bordering areas, as per the directives of Govt. of India.
These philanthropic gestures by BSF are always appreciated by all and sundry.
It is pertinent to mention here that BSF Seema Praharis are defending the extreme territorial limits of the country by religiously following the COVID19 protocols and also contributing in the fight against COVID19 by conducting ‘Jan Andolan Campaign’ in publicizing an awareness of ‘Appropriate Behaviour of COVID Protocols i.e. proper use of Facemasks, regular Handwash and ensuring Social Distancing’ among the local masses to counter the challenges posed by this deadly global pandemic.
BSF also maintains very close coordination with local Civil Administration and Sister Agencies, besides very cordial relations with its counterpart Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Both the Border Guarding Forces have raised the level of understanding and coordination by participating in various level talks, meetings and joint activities to curtail the trans-border crimes on common Borders.
