6.4 Earthquake In Assam, Aftershocks; Tremors In Northeast, North Bengal
A earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter Scale jolted Assam and other parts of Northeast on Wednesday morning.
Two aftershocks were also recorded within minutes of the first quake.
There were no reports of anyone being injured, but many buildings developed cracks. Structures like walls and brick kiln chimneys were damaged.
The earthquake originated in Tezpur of Assam and tremors were felt even in North Bengal and other parts of the Northeast.
According to the National Centre of Seismology, the earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter Scale originated in Sonitpur, Tezpur of Assam. The first earthquake was recorded at 7:51 am and according to the seismology centre, it was centred 43 km west of Tezpur in Assam.
