821 nominations found valid; BJP only party to field candidates in all 334 seats

As many as 821 nominations filed for elections to 20 civic bodies in Tripura comprising Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 13 municipal councils and six nagar panchayats were found valid after scrutiny, officials in the state election commission said.

According to the election commission data, the final tally of candidates stands at AITMC 120, BJP 334, CPIM 6, CPIM 192, Congress 92, RSP 2, AIFB 3, others 10 and Independent 21.

The total figure of candidates left in the poll fray stands at 785. The state election commission data has also revealed that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has already claimed victory in altogether seven urban local bodies.

A total of 36 candidates of different opposition parties have withdrawn their nomination papers

State Election Commissioner Manik Lal Dey said that the elections would be held through the Electronic Voting Machines in adherence to the Covid protocols.

The Municipal Election preparations in Tripura are in a full swing according to the official statement of The Election Commission of Tripura.

In one of the press meet, the Sadar SDM, Shri Ashim Saha cleared about the political cum law and order situation of the state. To him, every precautionary steps are being followed strictly to stop any possible poll violence as well as the COVID spread.

Tripura State Election Commission(SEC) on Friday announced the election to 20 urban local bodies, including Agartala Municipal Corporation in all the eight districts in the state on November 25.

The counting of votes will be held on November 28, three days after the elections.
