63.63% turnout; Three injured after crude bombs hurled outside a school

Voting in Kolkata’s civic body elections took place in a tense atmosphere on Sunday, amid allegations that workers of the TMC, the ruling party in West Bengal, were involved in violence against opposition across Kolkata.

A crude bomb explosion that left three men injured, rampage inside at least two polling booths and more than a dozen sporadic clashes marked elections to the 144 seats in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Sunday.

The state election commission recorded a 63.63% turnout in 144 wards as of 5 pm.

Opposition parties on Sunday alleged that TMC workers had captured booths and driven out their polling agents from booths at several wards in the Kolkata civic body election.
