The Celebration was started at 11-30 a.m. by all the officials of Weavers” Service Centre, Agartala, state Govt. officials and weavers from handloom clusters of Tripura participating in the virtual programme held at National level at New Delhi.
The programme held at WSC, Agartala was organised at 02.00 pm in the office premises of Weavers’ Service Centre, Agartala with the arrival of Hon’ble Dignitaries. Dr. Dilip Das, Hon’ble MLA of Barjala Constituency as Chief Guest, Shri Anirban Dutta, Joint Director of Handloom, Handicrafts & Sericulture, Govt. of Tripura as Guest of Honour, Shri Balai Goswami, Chairman of Tripura Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited as President, Smt. Pampa Karmakar, Asstt. Director of Handicrafts Service Centre, Govt. of India, Ministry of Textiles, Agartala and Smt. Smriti Rekha Chakma, National Awardee as Special Guest adorned the celebration in presence of more than fifteen nos. of Handloom weavers and officials from active clusters of this state.
At the beginning, the dignitaries had a look at the exhibition arranged by this office displaying different hand-loom products of various techniques, samples of natural (vegetable) dyed fabrics developed in this centre and also live demonstration of Handloom weaving on looms. Some suggestions regarding colour combinations according to public choice had been offered by the Hon’ble MLA, Dr. Dilip Das which had been noted for implementation.
Then the programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. Dilip Das. After the felicitation of the VIP’s, Shri Lakshman Chandra Basak, Head of Office of Weavers’ Service Centre, Agartala delivered the introductory speech welcoming all the distinguished guests, officials of Govt. of Tripura and other offices, weavers and representatives of more than five (05) Handloom Co-operative Societies of this state. He also briefed the different schemes launched by the Govt. of India for the development of the Handloom Industry, progress of the different ongoing schemes in the state of Tripura and also training and other technical services being offered by the Weavers’ Service Centre, Agartala for the local weavers..
The dignitaries then participated in the discussion. Shri S. Bhattacharjee, Sr. Officer (Comm.I, NHDC, Agartala briefed the facilities provided by them for the Handloom weavers regarding procurement of yarn, dyes etc. Shri Abhijit Debnath, of Digital India Corporation, Agartala apprised about the CAD-Lab facility being provided in Weavers’ Service centre premises. Shri H. Bhowmik, Ex- Joint Director of HHS, Govt. of Tripura stated his long experience in the field with some suggestions. Smt. Pampa Karmakar, Assistant Director, HSC, Govt. of India, Min. of Textiles shared her experience during implementation of different schemes. Smt. Smriti Rekha Chakma, a National Awardee detailed her activities being undertaken in the Handloom field. Dr. Dilip Das, Hon’ble MLA of Barjala Constituency of Tripura then delivered his valuable speech sharing his experiences of visiting different clusters of Handloom Sector in Tripura. He emphasized to evaluate the outcome of the training programmes being undertaken for better implementation of the schemes. Shri Anirban Dutta, Joint Director of HHS, Govt. of Tripura has also participated in the discussion sharing his experience. Shri Balai Goswami, Chairman of THHDC Ltd., and President of today’s programme delivered his concluding speech showing concerns on the present status of handloom Industry of Tripura and actions being undertaken for increasing marketing facilities.
