A RARE CASE OF GIANT SPINAL LUMBAR SCHWANNOMA SUCCESSFULLY OPERATED BY DEPARTMENT OF NEUROSURGERY AGMC

A 18 years female patient name MOUSHUMI BARMAN D/O DIPALI BARMAN R/O South Anandanagar Srinagar with complaints of low back pain and tingling sensation of Bilateral Lower limb along with difficulty in walking for one year.

For this same complain patient was consulted to doctor at outside Tripura at Silchar where it was diagnosed as giant spinal cord tumour known as Lumbar Schwannoma. From Silchar they were advised to consult Neurosurgeon at Delhi as surgery will not be possible there and the approximate cost of surgery would be 3 lac with medicine cost extr ..

But due to poor financial condition they came back to Tripura and consulted to Neurosurgery department of AGMC. Operation was done on 17/09/2021 by surgeon Dr Sidda Reddy, anaesthetist Dr Debasish Das along with team of nurses and assistants which too around 5 hours successfully remove a giant spinal tumour (360g in weight & 13×11 cm in size)from lumbar spinal cord. After operation patient has no pain and she can walk comfortably.

Normally these cases require a team consisting of Vascular surgeons and others as the tumour is very lose to the Major blood vessels

The department has so far conducted 499 Neurosurgery operations.
