The Government is attaching top priority to Industrial development of the State to realize the dream of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Make in India” initiatives of the Prime Minister of India. Therefore, Government of Tripura is working dedicatedly to increase the income of the people with creation of more employment opportunity. With these objectives the Government has decided to attract investors across the globe to set-up manufacturing and service sector units in Tripura with emphasis on utilization of local natural resources like rubber, bamboo, tea, gas, agri and horti produces utilizing local human resource. This will add to overall economic development of the State
As a part of the initiative, the Government is availing financial assistance from Asian Development Bank (ADB) to develop infrastructure of 13 Industrial Estates across 6 (six) districts in Tripura. Earlier in May, 2022 ADB sanctioned Project Readiness Financing loan of $2.00 million (about Rs. 16.00 Cr) for surveys, studies, Detail Project Report preparation and other preparatory works. The Government also submitted a proposal in March, 2023 for sanction of the main project of Rs 1200.00 Cr (ADB loan: $ 120.00 million, State Government share: $ 30.00 million: Total: $150 million) to Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. In the Steering Committee Meeting of DEA held on 31.08.2023 the project proposal has been sanctioned. This will be one of the major projects in infrastructure sector in the State. With the financial assistance, 13 Industrial estates of Tripura like Bodhjungnagar, RK Nagar, Dukli, Kumarghat Dhajanagar, Dewanpasa ete will be developed with world class industrial infrastructure. About 1200 acres of land in the Industrial estates will be developed out of which 800 acres will be industrial plots and 400 acres will be used for industrial infrastructure like road, water supply, power, drainage, truck parking, solid waste management, utility ducts and social infrastructure like low cost housing, public transport, dispensaries, women hostel etc. Once implemented, the investment is expected to attract more than 500 new industrial units in the State. The project is thus expected to usher in a new era of economic and social development for the State. This was informed in a press release by Director of Industries and Commerce Department. To accomplish this objective, the government has decided to attract investors from around the world to develop industrial units based on the state’s local natural resources such as rubber, bamboo, tea, gas, agriculture and horticulture crops. It will speed up the overall development of the state.
As part of this initiative, financial assistance is being sought from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for infrastructure development of 13 industrial cities in 6 districts of Tripura.
Director of Industry and Commerce Department Biswali B informed this news in a press release.
The director of the Department of Industry and Commerce said, “In May 2022, the Asian Development Bank had sanctioned about 16 crore rupees as project readiness finance. This money is sanctioned for survey, research and preparation of DPR.”
He added, “In March 2023, the state government submitted another Rs 1,200 crore application for the main project. ADB’s stake in it will be 120 million dollars. The state’s share will be 30 million dollars.”
The director further said, “This application has been submitted to the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. This proposal was approved in the screening committee meeting of the Department of Economic Affairs held on August 31. This project is one of the major infrastructure development projects of the state.”
