All schools asked to remain shut in Tripura till April 27 due to heatwave

The Tripura government has asked all schools to remain closed for four days starting Wednesday due to the prevailing heat wave in the northeastern state. The state education department issued a notice asking all district education officers to convey the message to schools under their jurisdiction.

In response to the prevailing heat wave throughout the State and in pursuance of the advice of the Revenue Department, Govt. of Tripura dated 23/04/2024, It has been decided that all the Government & Government Aided Schools under Education (School) Department, Govt. of Tripura, Schools under TTAADC and Privately Managed Schools will remain closed w.e.f. 24/04/2024 to 27/04/2024.

All the District Education Officers are hereby instructed to convey this decision to each and every schools under their jurisdiction.

The Tripura government has responded decisively to the current heatwave by declaring it a “state specific disaster” and issuing a detailed set of guidelines to protect the welfare of its residents.


The advisory instructs district administrations to swiftly activate emergency operation centers and emphasized the need for readiness by mobilizing rapid response teams and ensuring essential resources are available throughout Tripura.

Ensuring uninterrupted power supply to all parts of the state is a key priority for citizen safety. The government also highlights the importance of collaboration with relevant agencies to improve coordination and tackle emerging issues efficiently.



People are advised to minimize outdoor activities, particularly from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, to avoid the peak heat. It’s recommended to drink more water to prevent dehydration and wear light-colored cotton clothing, along with protective gear like hats and goggles.
