Union Home Minister, Amit Shah has informed Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the chief of the TIPRA Motha Party (TMP), that the government will appoint an interlocutor by March 27.
The TMP chief tweeted that Home Minister Amit Shah called him on Thursday early morning to inquire about his health.
He added that Shah assured him that an interlocutor will be announced by March 27 for talks regarding the constitutional solution for the indigenous people of Tripura.
He added, “I hope the home minister will understand the sentiments of the Tiprasa and honour the commitment he has given to me.”
TMP made the issue ‘Greater Tipraland’ a major topic in the 2023 Assembly elections in Tripura, and won 13 out of 20 seats reserved for tribal candidates, which made it the second-largest party after the BJP, the ruling party.
Notably, after a two-hour long meeting was held between Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders, the Chief Ministers of Assam and Tripura, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and all 13 legislators and leaders of TMP on March 8.
After the meeting, Debbarman said that the Union government has promised to appoint an interlocutor to study and resolve TIPRA’s demands.
