Bye-election to20-Boxanagar and 23-Dhanpur assembly constituencies: Restrictions on exit polls

On September 5, 2023 (Tuesday), polling will be held for bye-election to 20- Boxanagar and 23-Dhanpur assembly constituencies. An order from the Election Commission of India has informed that no exit polls will be conducted between 7 am to 7 pm on polling day and no publicity through print and electronic media or any other means.

The Election Commission of India has issued this order under sub-section (1) of Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

According to Section 126 (1) (b) of the Representation of the People Act 1951, no display of any election matter, opinion poll or election survey of any kind shall be broadcasted by electronic means within 48 hours before the end of the polling period.

This is according to an order issued by Secretary of Election Commission of India. Additional Chief Electoral Officer UJ Mog informed this.
