Cabinet Clears Proposal to increase Women’s Legal Marriage Age from 18 to 21

The Cabinet has cleared proposal to increase the legal minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to 21 years.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday has passed a proposal to increase the minimum legal age for marriage of women from 18 to 21 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independent day speech said “This government is constantly concerned about the health of daughters and sisters. To save the daughters from malnutrition, it is necessary that they’re married at the right age,”
