Central and state govt have taken several schemes to double the income of farmers: Sushanta Chowdhury

The country’s economy is based on agriculture. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched several schemes to double the income of farmers. The state government is also taking several steps for the economic development of the farmers in the state. Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury said this while inaugurating the paddy purchase programme at Minimum Support Price in Jirania Madhab bari food warehouse yesterday.

He said that twice a year paddy is procured from the farmers at MSP. The programme has been launched in different parts of the state under the initiative of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

This programme has been going on since the establishment of the present government. Paddy is being purchased at the rate of 20 rupees 40 paisa per kg this year. Now the enthusiasm among the farmers has increased. Last year paddy was purchased at 19.40 per kg. This time it has been increased. The demands of the farmers are met without agitation in the state.

Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Sharadindu Das spoke among others on the occasion. Deputy Director of Agriculture Sukanta Das gave the welcome address. Vice Chairman of Jirania Panchayat Samiti Pritam Debnath, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Jirania Shanti Ranjan Chakma and others were present at the programme. This programme will continue till January 13.
