CM attends in review meeting of Urban Development Department

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha attended a review meeting of the Urban Development Department in the Secretariat on Monday.


In the review meeting, CM said, “The Urban Development Department should play a more active role in providing civic services in urban areas. In this case, importance should be given to sensitize the citizens to take advantage of various projects of the department.

There is also a need to publicize the achievements of the Urban Development Department.” Reviewing the various projects of the Urban Development Department in the meeting, the Chief Minister said that regular repair and maintenance of all sources of drinking water in urban areas should be given more importance.

He added that the urban development department should also look at the issue of whether the guidelines are being followed properly for the construction of paved houses in urban areas.

Besides, the CM also directed the officials of the Urban Development Department to take necessary initiatives to develop proper parking system to keep the Agartala city area free from traffic congestion.

On the other hand, the Secretary of the Urban Development Department Abhishek Singh said, “The total area of 20 urban bodies in the state including Agartala Municipal Corporation is 23,983 square kilometers. The total population of the urban area is 9 lakh 59 thousand 315 people. There are 2 lakh 40 thousand 757 families in urban area. There are a total of 334 wards in 20 city bodies including Agartala Municipality.”

The secretary said that the urban development department had undertaken the work of 10 projects in the Amrut project according to the state annual procurement plan.
