On the occasion of the 8th annual festival of Viramma Kali Mandir at Melaghar, a three-day fair, Rath Parikrama and Mahayagya ceremony started from Wednesday.
The Chief Minister Prof Manik Saha inaugurated the festival by lighting a lamp.
In his inaugural address, he highlighted the historical background of the Viramma Kali Temple.
He hoped that the Viramma Kali Temple would become one of the notable places for the devotees like other historical religious sites in the state.
The Chief Minister said that such festivals strengthen the atmosphere of harmony and brotherhood in the state.
Before the inauguration of the temple, Chief Minister worshiped Bhiramma Kali for the welfare of the people of the state and welcomed five monks from distant TamilNadu.
MLA Subhash Chandra Das and social activist Kishore Barman also spoke on the occasion.
