“We strongly condemn the attack on Prabhat Chowdhury and demand immediate arrest of the culprits involved in it , this ugly incident shows the total breakdown of the law and order situation in Tripura and the state government should take all measures to restore the rule of law and constitution in the statement” said the CPI (M) party secretariat’s statement.
According to the statement issued by CPI (M) state secretariat , , originally a resident of Kalagachhia area of Sabroom , had gone to the house of his relative late Haricharan Chowdhury-a cabinet minister in the government headed by late chief minister Sukhamay Sengupta in the seventies-to attend a social function on last Saturday in Kalibazar area. A group of BJP workers led by local leader Uttam Tripura stormed into the house of late Haricharan Chowdhury and tried to physically assault MLA Prabhat Chowdhury who was pushed into a room by his hosts to save his life. Besides spoiling all the cooked food in the house the miscreants also tried to break open the room but the womenfolk of the house stood up in resistance .
