The deadline for linking Voter ID and Aadhaar Card has been prolonged by the central government, which will offer significant ease to cardholders.
The government has announced in a notification that the option to link the two cards will now be available until next year.
The notification also stated that if any cardholders fail to link their Voter ID and Aadhaar, they will not face any consequences.
The government has also said that the process is completely voluntary and has not been made mandatory.
Earlier the government issued a notification, saying that April 1, 2023 was the last date for linking Voter ID and Aadhaar, which has now been extended to March 31, 2024.
Thus, the cardholders will have additional time of full 1 year to complete this work.
Nevertheless, the Election Commission has also told many advantages of linking both the cards. The Commission said that linking can help to identify the correct voter and prevent two registrations with the same name in the same Lok Sabha constituency.
Linking of Aadhaar card and Voter ID can be done through both offline and online mode.
Besides, linking can be completed by sending a message from mobile or even by calling.
