Death toll rises to 8 in Tripura Rath Yatra tragedy

The police informed that the number of fatalities in the Rath Yatra yatra incident that took place in Tripura’s Unakoti district on June 28 has increased to eight.

A 40-year-old woman, who suffered serious burns, passed away due to her injuries at GBP Hospital.

On Wednesday, authorities confirmed that seven individuals, including two children, were electrocuted, and another 16 people sustained injuries when the chariot of Lord Jagannath came into contact with a high-voltage wire in Kumarghat, Unakoti district during the return Rath Yatra.

Assistant inspector Jyotishman Das Chowdhury said that 40-year old Ratna Rani Dhar died due to her severe burns on Tuesday at GBP Hospital.
