A 16-month-old boy from Chandrakishore Para under Gandatuisa sub-division was admitted to Gandachhara sub-divisional hospital with symptoms of high cough and fever.
Doctors at the hospital found the child had heart problems after initial treatment.
At that time, the medical staff of the state child health program conducted an initial screening and identified the symptoms of the child’s heart disease.
The child was then sent to a private hospital in Agartala for advanced testing to confirm heart disease.
The tests revealed that the child had a heart disease and advised the child to undergo open heart surgery at a private hospital abroad for better medical care.
On May 18, the child underwent free heart surgery at a private hospital in Kolkata under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK).
The child is now slowly recovering and his physical condition is stable.
The relatives of the patient expressed their gratitude to the RBSK team of the sub-divisional hospital for completing the free open heart surgery.
