Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumder and Agartala Press Club Secretary Pranab Sarkar visited the house of journalist Nitai Dey on Saturday evening.
The Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury inquired about the physical condition of the victim.
He assured him of all possible help. He said whatever happened is very unfortunate and he didn’t expect such thing from the police.
The video journalist named Nitai Dey was arrested by the Tripura police on Tuesday evening.
Nitai Dey was arrested while he was covering the restrictions imposed by the Tripura government on sale of fuel.
After the incident, Journalists led by Indian Journalists Union Secretary Pranab Sarkar staged a protest outside the headquarters of Tripura police against the arrest of the video journalist.
Pranab Sarkar, secretary of Agartala Press Club, Subal Dey, president, and Arun Nath, a journalist, held a series of meetings with the OC and other high-ranking officials.
Senior editors and journalists led by Agartala Press Club Secretary and India Journalists Union National Secretary Pranab Sarkar and others since Wednesday morning launched agitations in front of the East Agartala police station and the Police Headquarters demanding action against the accused police personnel.
While granting bail to journalist Nitai Dey on Wednesday, judicial magistrate (first class) West Agartala, Ayan Chowdhary, directed the West Tripura police to submit a report in connection with the case within three days.
The police issued a suspension order in which West Tripura Superintendent of Police Bogati Jagadeeswar Reddy said Inspector Arindam Roy has been suspended with immediate effect from May 18 afternoon.
