Khowai Sub-division level Vanmahotsav was observed on July 28 at Sitesh Smriti Community Hall of West Champacherra Village of Tulasikhar Block. Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma inaugurated the program organized by Sub-Divisional Forest Officer’s Office. In his inaugural address, the Minister said, oxygen is essential for our survival, plants provide us with oxygen.
There is no substitute for trees to protect the balance of the environment. Therefore, besides being aware of forest protection, he urged everyone to plant more saplings. Besides, Sahakari Sabhadhipati of Khowai Zilla Parishad Harishankar Pal also spoke on the occasion. Chairman of Khowai Panchayat Samiti Tinku Bhattacharya, President of Khowai Zilla Parishad Agriculture Standing Committee Satyendra Chandra Das, President of Poverty Alleviation Standing Committee Ranjit Sarkar, Chairman of Tulashikhar BAC Pradip Kumar Debbarma, Additional District Magistrate of Khowai District Keshav Kar, BDO of Tulashikhar Block Manas Murasingh, Sub Divisional Forest Officer Nitish Chakraborty and others were present at the programme. Welcome speech was given by District Forest Officer Akshay Valu Borde. Chairman of Khowai Zilla Parishad Jaydeh Debbarma presided over the programme.
In connection with this painting competition was held with the children of the area. 245 children participated in 4 categories and prizes were handed over to the first, second and third place winners in each category by Minister Bikash Debbarma and other guests. SDFO Nitish Chakraborty gave vote of thanks.
At the end of the programme, Minister Bikas Debbarma along with other guests planted trees near the community hall. On the occasion of Vanmahotsav. 200 different species of tree saplings were distributed among the students and parents of the school by the Sub-Divisional Forest Department.
