The CPI(M) led Left Front is likely to announce the names of the candidates today
Elections to the 60-member Tripura Assembly will be held on February 16 and the last date for filing nominations is January 30.
Party general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Politburo member former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and State secretary Jitendra Chaudhury were present at the meeting.
The CPI(M) State Committee meeting on Monday endorsed a list of party candidates and the proposal to ally with ‘democratic and secular’ parties, including the Congress, in Assembly elections due on February 16.
The Tripura Pradesh Congress would declare the list of the candidates for the assembly election on or after January 25 .
Pradesh Congress President Birajit Sinha in a press conference on Monday said that Congress has already decided the name of the candidates, which will be discussed in the meeting of Central Election Committee at New Delhi.
He added that they will declare the names of the candidates after that on January 25.
Sinha further informed that Congress will not field candidates in those places where Congress may face defeat, whereas the winning chances of CPIM candidates is high.
He said that the dialogue on seat sharing with opposition CPI(M) is under process and also mentioned that he is hopeful people will support this alliance.
Notably, it is the first time in the history of the Tripura election that the Congress and CPIM are jointly contesting the election to defeat the saffron party and to free the people of the state from the alleged misrule of BJP.
