LGBT case: Manik demands action against those involved in harassment

On Wednesday it took a political turn when Opposition leader Ex Chief Minister Manik Sarkar wrote a letter to Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

The Leader of opposition Manik Sarkar on Wednesday wrote a letter to the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for taking immediate action against those person involved in harassing LGBT inside Police Station.

In his letter Opposition Leader Manik Sarkar wrote “requesting immediate action from the Government of Tripura in the wake of the incidents against four LGBT citizens at West Agartala Police Station and West Agartala Women’s Police Station”.

He said “On the night of January 8, 2022, we were shocked, ashamed and outraged to learn that four LGBT citizens had been physically and mentally tortured and harassed at West Agartala Police Station and West Agartala Women’s Police Station”.

Manik Sarkar strongly protest and condemn this unforgivable anti-civilization incident committed by the police in the two mentioned police stations.

He said “I demand that the police officers in charge of these two police stations should be removed from their duties immediately.

At the same time, the government must take immediate action to ensure the freedom, dignity and security of LGBT citizens”.
