Mayor of AMC inaugurates Garia Festival at Swami Vivekananda Maidan

“Garia festival has now become a Sarbajanin (universal) festival. Baba Gariya is the god of strength. Once the Gariya festival was limited to the tribal groups, but today this festival is celebrated by the people of all castes and tribal sections of the state.”

Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumdar said this while inaugurating Garia and traditional food festival at Swami Vivekananda Maidan on Saturday.

Mayor Majumdar thanked the entrepreneurs for organising such a festival in Agartala city.
He said, “Garia Puja is the traditional puja of the state. This puja is organized for crop production, welfare of family, society and state. A total of 20 stalls have been opened in the traditional food festival organized on the occasion of Garia festival.”

Mayor added self-motivated tribal women have arranged to display and sell various delicacies prepared by themselves in these stalls, which includes chakhui, bangui, mango chutney, juice, cake, pachara, bangles, jewellery, handlooms and handicrafts.
