Nationwide campaign to control adulteration in edible oil begins from 1″ August, 2022: Joint Food Safety Commissioner

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is responsible for ensuring availability of safe and healthy food to the people of the country. There are various instances and allegations of adulterated edible oil being sold without the mandatory agmark license as well as blending of oils.

There are also allegations of open sale of packaged or bottled products despite prohibitions under FSS regulations. In this context, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has decided to conduct a nationwide campaign from 1″ August to August 14, 2022 through State Food Safety Authorities to control adulteration in edible oil Joint Food Safety Commissioner Dr. Radha Debbarma said this in a press conference held on 1s August, 2022.

She told that the main objectives of the campaign is to control trans fatty acid levels, labeling provisions and mandatory agmark license for multi source edible oils and ban on open sale of edible oils in the country. In this regard, all designated officers have been directed to collect at least two samples of oil from their respective districts.

Joint Food Safety Commissioner Dr. Radha Debbarma said, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has ordered 15 parameters to be tested for these samples.

These tests can be done only in 30 laboratories across the country. In this case, the samples collected in the state will be sent to the designated lab in Kolkata. Deputy Food Safety Commissioner Dr. Anuradha Majumder was also present at the press conference.
