Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury informed this during addressing a press conference in Agartala.
The Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, located in Udaipur in the southern part of Tripura, is a revered shrine for Hindus, especially for those living in the northeastern part of India. The temple is believed to be over 500 years old and is dedicated to Goddess Kali, the destroyer of evil and the protector of the good.
The restoration of the temple is also expected to boost tourism in the state of Tripura. The northeastern region of India has a rich cultural heritage and is home to several important religious sites. However, the region has not received the attention it deserves in terms of tourism development.
The restoration of the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple and the presence of high-profile dignitaries at its inauguration will help promote tourism in the region.
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury highlighted various adventure tourism initiatives undertaken by Tripura government in a press conference at the Secretariat’s press conference hall on Tuesday.
He said, “Several programs have been undertaken at Jampuihill, Dumboor reservoir and Chabimura to popularize adventure tourism in the state. These include paramotoring, paragliding, hot air ballooning, rock climbing, rappelling, Burma Biz, kayaking, zip line and water sports.”
Highlighting the progress and success of the tourism department in the press conference, the tourism minister said that the state government is working on a plan to highlight tourism as an alternative source of economy for the state.
He added that the Department of Tourism has undertaken a multifaceted program with the aim of presenting Tripura as a world-class tourist destination to the tourists of the country and abroad.
The tourism minister also said, “The central government has also extended its support to make the various places of interest in the state attractive for the development of tourism. In the first phase of the Swadesh Darshan project of the central government, the development work of 11 tourist centers, namely Agartala, Sepahijala, Melaghar, Udaipur, Amarpur, Mandirghat, Tirthamukh, Narikelkunj, Dumboor, Ambassa, Baramura etc. are almost at the final stage.”
He added that for this, the Ministry of Tourism of the Central Government has sanctioned Rs 82 crore 84 lakh 74 thousand for the first phase Swadesh Darshan project among which 73 crore 74 lakh 57 thousand rupees have been spent so far and the progress of work is about 97 percent.
Chowdhury further said, “The Ministry of Tourism of the Central Government has sanctioned Rs. 50 crores 38 lakh for the second phase of the Swadesh Darshan project. Through this project, tourist places such as Surma Chhara Water Fall in Kamalpur, Shaheed Dhananjay Memorial Park in Abhangchara of Jolaibari, India-Bangladesh Maitri Park in Chottakhala of Belonia, Nirmahal, Buddhastupa in Boxanagar, Jampuihill etc. will be developed.”
