Police tighten security in Tripura ahead of Assembly elections in state

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarro said that all preparations are completed for conducting peaceful, free and fair elections in 60 assembly seats of Tripura on Thursday.

Gitte added that the voting will be held under tight security between 7 am and 4 pm at 3,337 polling stations among which 28 are critical and 1,100 are sensitive.

The CEO further said that 25,000 security personnel of central forces and 31,000 polling personnel are ready to conduct the election peacefully.

He said that 31,000 employees of the state police and the state armed police will be deployed to maintain law and order.

Notably, prohibitory order has already been imposed across the state as the precautionary measures which will remain in force till 6 am on February 17.

Besides, the international and inter-state boundaries are also sealed to prevent troublemakers from entering Tripura.

Altogether 28.13 lakh voters including 13.53 lakh women will decide the fate of 259 aspirants of whom 20 are women.

The main contestants of the elections belong to the BJP-IPFT alliance, CPIM-Congress alliance and the Tipra Motha.
