Preparatory meeting chaired by Food Minister at Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department

Packaged powdered spices to be available in fair price shops in the state from May 16

The state government has undertaken multifaceted programmes to strengthen the public distribution system.

For this purpose, from May 16, Longtharai’s spice powder packets of chilli, turmeric, cumin and coriander will be delivered at subsidized price through 2050 government fair price shops in the state.

Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha will inaugurate the programme which will be organized on this occasion on May 16 at 11 am at Rabindra Bhavan. During the programme, the Chief Minister will hand over powdered spices to 8 consumers from 8 districts of the state.

A casual meeting will also be held on the occasion. This decision was taken in a preparatory meeting of the department in the conference hall of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs in Gorkhabasti on 14 May, 2023 Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department Sushanta Chowdhury presided over the preparatory meeting Secretary of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Raval Hamendra Kumar, Director Nirmal Adhikari, Additional Director Animesh Debbarma, Director of Information and Cultural Affairs Department Bimbisat Bhattacharya, Proprietor of Longtharai Powdered Spices Ratan Debnath, President of Tripura Government Fair Price Shop Management Association Uttam Kumar Ghosh, officials of the department and dealers were present in the meeting

After the preparatory meeting, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury informed reporters that the state government has taken initiative to deliver new products to every consumer in the state through public distribution system. To further strengthen the public distribution system, packaged spice powders will be provided to consumers at subsidized prices through Government Fair Price Shops.

The aim of the government is to provide more essential commodities to the people of the state at subsidized prices. “Longtharai’ company has been roped in through tender. The Minister informed that there are over 9 lakh ration card holders in the state.

These 4 spice powders will be delivered to consumers at subsidized prices through a total of 2050 fair price shops in the state. From mustard oil to other new products, efforts have been taken to ensure that people do not have to buy at high prices.
