“The present government is working for the welfare of the people of all parts of the state. Priority has been given to the welfare of other backward classes (OBC) in the state.
Keeping the slogan of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Bikash’ in front, various programs are being implemented for the development of people of all sections including castes, tribes and others.”
Other Backward Classes Welfare Minister Santana Chakma said this in a press conference at the Secretariat on Thursday.
OBC Welfare Minister Chakma presented the details of various developmental projects of the department and the statistics of the beneficiaries in the press conference.
She said that the OBC Welfare Department has various projects aimed at education and socio-economic development, one of which is providing pre-matric scholarships to OBC students studying in class I to X.
Minister added, “In the financial year 2022-23, 25 thousand 696 applications were submitted on the National Scholarship Portal. Already Rs 59 lakh 25 thousand has been sanctioned for scholarship for 3 thousand 950 students.
20 thousand and 73 applications have been submitted on the National Scholarship Portal for Post Matric Scholarships for OBC students from class XI to college and university level.
She added, “In recognition of their remarkable achievements, they were awarded gold medals and certificates along with 25,000 rupees in cash. 26 people were given this honor in the fiscal year 2022-23. For this, the OBC department has spent 6 lakh 50 thousand rupees.”
