Section 144 in Teliamura after TMC workers attack BJP rally

On Wednesday, a clash took place between the supporters of AITMC and BJP at Ward No. 14, Kalitilla under Teliamura PS and in trying to dissuade the two groups the police also came under attack and ultimately mild force was used for dispersing the mob and to bring the situation under control.

It all started with a squading of AITMC, local leader at Kalitilla area at about 20:45 hrs on Wednesday. In the process they came face to face with a group of BJP supporters(about 100) at Kalitilla. Both the groups became violent and there was hot exchange of words.

Police party led by SDPO, Teliamura intervened in the proceedings and categorically told AITMC supporters that as per decision conveyed by the authority, no squading procession in connection with the ensuing Municipal Election should continue after 20:30 hrs.

At this some of the supporters of both the parties left the place but at about 21:00 hrs a group of AITMC supporters(approx 30) suddenly attacked the BJP supporters with lethal weapons who were standing in front of the BJP booth office.

The miscreants also set fire upon some bikes of BJP supporters and also damaged properties. By this time there was reinforcement of police and SDM, Teliamura also reached there. The mob was declared unlawful as they attacked the Govt. officials as well. The unruly mob was dispersed by using mild force including firing of gas shells. 04 persons suspected to be TMC supporters were detained from the spot.

Total 19 persons including 02 police personnel sustained injuries in this incident. Amongst the injured persons 09 have been referred to Agartala for better treatment comprising of 05 BJP supporters and 04 TMC supporters.

Prohibitory order under section 144 Cr.PC has been promulgated in Ward No. 13, 14 and 15 of Teliamura Municipal Council area from the night of 0100 hrs. of 18/11/2021 to 24/11/2021..

Section 144 has been imposed in the areas of ward nos. 13, 14 and 15 which is likely to remain imposed till November 24 next. At the same time, Central Security Forces and CRPF personnel have been deployed in the entire Kalitila area. It is learned that section 144 will remain in force in these wards till November 24.
