State Govt is working seriously towards women empowerment: Chief Minister

Raksha Bandhan was celebrated at Chief Minister official residence today, keeping in view the call for bonds of friendship and harmony. On this occasion, sisters from different parts of the state tied rakhi to Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha Moreover, on this day MIA Kalyani Roy, MLA Antara Sarkar Deb and MLA Mina Rani Sarkar tied rakhi to Chief Minister.

Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha congratulated all the sisters of the state and wished them well on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Talking to reporters, the Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched many schemes aimed at empowering women.

The present state government has been working on the goal of women empowerment in the state since its inception. T’e empower women 33 percent seats has been reserved for women in government jobs Also 50 percent reservation has been made for women in allotment of government market stalls and shopping complexes.

Girls are getting free education in general degree colleges of the state. Free bicycle is being provided to girl students studying in class IX So far, about 100,000 bicycles have been distributed to girl students. Besides, the state government has also taken initiative to give free scooty to meritorious girl students who have passed Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examination.

The Chief Minister also said that there are currently around 50,000 self-help groups in the state. Most of these are run by women. Revolving Funds are being provided to financially strengthen Self Help Groups.

The Chief Minister said that besides improving the socio-economic status of women, the government has also given special importance to their safety. Immediate action is being taken in cases of crime related to women anywhere in the state. In this case, arrangements are being made to give speedy punishment to the guilty as per the law.

With the objective for women to move freely on roads, CCTV cameras have also been installed in different parts of the city. The Chief Minister said that on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the Prime Minister has reduced the price of LPG cylinder by 200 rupees.

As a result, customers of Ujjwala Yojana will also benefit. In addition, the central government has decided to provide another 75 lakh free gis connection under Ujjwala Yojana For this, the Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the state government.
