Thirteen MLAs of TIPRA Motha took oath in the Assembly on Friday

Thirteen MLAs of TIPRA Motha took oath in the Assembly on Friday.

After the oath of MLAs, while speaking to reporters at Agartala, TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said that his party will act as a ‘responsible Opposition’ and question the BJP-led government on issues both inside and outside the Assembly.

He added, “The Home Minister assured us to appoint an interlocutor. Now it is up to the government. We cannot continue to wait and will continue to take on the government, be it inside the Assembly, on the streets or villages on issues of development”.

Pradyot Kishore further said that TIPRA will continue to raise our demand for a constitutional solution for the tribals and will not sit in the government until the demand is fulfilled.

Notably, the TIPRA Motha contested the 2023 Assembly elections with a demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’, a separate state for the indigenous people and won 13 seats.

Thereby, TIPRA Motha emerged as the second largest party in Tripura in its maiden Assembly elections.

BJP repeatedly clarified that the party would not allow division of Tripura while assured to address the welfare demands of tribals.
Motha demands a constitutional amendment to offer more financial, legislative and administrative powers to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), in which the party is currently in power.
