Three children, two boys, and a girl, lost their lives by drowning in Khowai river in the Tripura’s Khowai district on Sunday.
Another boy also became severely ill in the sorrowful event.
A police spokesperson said, “Three children, aged 6-12 years, tragically drowned in the Khowai river while bathing, resulting in their unfortunate demise. Fortunately, a six-year-old boy named Ayan Das was rescued by his grandfather.”
The spokesperson further mentioned that personnel from the Tripura Fire and Emergency Services, along with local residents, retrieved the bodies of the three children from the river.
He added that the bodies were then transported to a government hospital, where they were sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed deep grief and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. He said, “I am deeply saddened by the death of three children who drowned in the water while taking a bath in the river Khowai today. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Praying to God to give the bereaved families strength to bear the pain. I appeal to all parents to be a little more careful with children to avoid accidents.”
