Tripura: Ahead by-polls, Former Congress minister Billal Miah joins BJP in Tripura

Senior Congress leader, former minister, Billal Mia, officially became a member of the ruling BJP on Thursday during a rally organised by the BJP held at the Kulubari school ground in Sonamura subdivision.

He accepted the party flag from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee, along with other party leaders.
While addressing the rally, Billal urged the public to ensure defeat of the CPIM candidate, Mizan Hossain. He sharply criticized the policies, programs, and activities of the CPIM in Boxanagar.

Notably, Billal served as an animal resource development minister in the Congress-TUJS coalition government from 1988 to 1993, and later as an MLA from 1998 to 2003. He was a contender for the upcoming by-election for the Boxanagar constituency scheduled for September 5.

Initially, he had voiced his opposition to the Congress party’s decision to concede the seat to the CPIM by publicly expressing his disagreement before submitting his resignation letter to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge.
