Tripura Bye-Election: Political parties gear up for Bye-polls

Following the election commission’s announcement of by-election dates for Boxanagar and Dhanpur constituencies, the ruling BJP is holding strategic meetings to finalize candidates.

Sources claimed that a decision will be taken soon, and an active campaign is set to commence.

Tofazzal Hossain, a prominent businessman, is a strong contender for the Boxanagar seat. In the 2023 assembly election, he narrowly lost to CPIM candidate Shamsul Haque, who has passed away recently.

Despite his previous loss, Tofazzel Hossain improved BJP’s performance compared to the 2018 election. Active party involvement and his organizational works strengthened his renomination’s scope. However, the final decision lies with the party’s parliamentary board.

In Dhanpur, BJP faces challenges due to the absence of a strong local candidate after Pratima Bhowmik’s resignation. State president Rajib Bhattacharjee was considered for this seat. the final decision will be taken carefully by the central and state BJP.
