Tripura ByePoll: CPIM wants central forces

The Tripura CPIM has announced its list of candidates for the upcoming by-elections scheduled for September 5 in the Boxanagar and Dhanpur Assembly Constituencies within Sepahijala district of Tripura.

At a press conference, Narayan Kar, the Tripura Left Front’s Convener revealed that Mijan Hossain, the son of the late MLA Samsul Haque, has been nominated as the candidate for Boxanagar.

Kar added that Kaushik Chanda, who previously contested from the Dhanpur Assembly constituency in the 2023 Assembly Election against Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik will be the contestant in the seat.

He also mentioned that both candidates are scheduled to file their nomination documents on August 16.

Kar further expressed his concerns about the current circumstances, stating that the government’s actions are undermining the core principles of the Indian Constitution and posing a danger to democracy.
He said, “Citizens are being adversely affected at this crucial moment. The country seems to be heading towards autocracy, which raises significant concerns.”

Kar accused the ruling party BJP of adopting authoritarian tactics, claiming that CPIM is facing hindrances in engaging in political activities within both constituencies.
He said, “Even though we are not permitted to open our offices, we have decided to contest against them. We urge all opposition political parties to unite against the BJP for victory. Additionally, we insist on the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to guarantee an impartial election.”
