Tripura: Bypolls conclude peacefully

By-elections to Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly constituencies were completed peacefully on Tuesday.

Long queues of voters have been seen in various booths since morning. Voting started from 7 am amidst tight security in a festive mood.

There are 59 polling stations in Dhanpur and 51 polling stations in Boxanagar. Two assembly constituencies had two polling stations operated by women each.

Dhanpur and Boxanagar centers had 4 candidates each. The contesting candidates in Dhanpur constituency are BJP’s Bindu Debnath, CPIM’s Kaushik Chanda, two independent candidates Anil Reang and Bapi Debnath.

On the other hand, candidates in Boxanagar constituency are BJP Tafajjal Hossain, CPIM’s Mizan Hossain, two independent candidates Mohd Salim and Ratan Hossain.

There are 50,346 voters in Dhanpur constituency and 43,149 voters in Boxanagar constituency.


Voter turnout in Boxanagar by-election till 4 pm is 85.52% and Dhanpur’s polling rate is 81.34%.

As the complete information is not yet available, the election commission has claimed that the voting rate may increase.

Union State Minister Pratima Bhowmik cast her vote in Dhanpur on this day. BJP candidate Tafajjal Hossain, former minister Billal Mia and opposition party CPM candidates voted in Boxanagar.
