The CPI(M) Polit Bureau raised its concerns regarding the deployment of police forces of Assam and Gujarat in Tripura for the assembly elections replacing the Border Security Force.
The party submitted a letter to the Election Commission of India in this regard as well as demanded that only central paramilitary forces should be deployed.
The letter states that the Election Commission of India assured a free and fair election for the Assembly in Tripura in an atmosphere free of fear and terror, which was reassured on January 19, 2023.
It further says that the deployment of the other state police forces (from Assam and the Gujarat) replacing the Border Security Force (BSF) units is unusual.
The CPI(M) Polit Bureau mentioned that this much force should not be required in addition to Central security forces while deployment of these forces could influence the poll outcome.
The letter demanded that only Central forces should be deployed to ensure a free and fair poll.
The party has also drawn the attention of the ECI towards the chaotic situation, which emerged in conducting of the postal ballot.
