Tripura Congress paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi today on his 77th birth anniversary.
Tributes started pouring in for former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on Friday on his 77th birth anniversary even as several Congress leaders, including his son Rahul Gandhi, visited his memorial in Delhi.
Rajiv Gandhi, who served as the prime minister of the country from 1984 to 1989, was born on August 20 in 1944. He was assassinated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) during an election campaign in 1991.
Born in 1944, Rajiv Gandhi became the youngest prime minister of India in 1984 after he assumed office following the death of his mother Indira Gandhi. He served as the prime minister of India till December 2, 1989. The Congress celebrates Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary as Sadbhavna Divas.
